NBC New York: Rick Moranis, star of “Ghostbuster”, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” and more was attacked by an unknown assailant near New York City’s Central Park on Thursday, police said.

Police in New York City have revealed that actor Rick Moranis was the victim of a random attack just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 7:24 a.m. on the Upper West Side of New York.

Moranis, age 67, was attacked by an unknown offender on Central Park West near 70th Street. The surveillance video shows the suspect, wearing an “I Love New York” sweatshirt. Moranis was well out of the offender’s way when the attacker was walking and cut left toward Moranis. The offender punched Moranis in the head with a closed fist, and kept walking while Moranis fell to the ground.

After treatment at the hospital, Moranis walked to a nearby NYPD precinct station to report the crime. Police said Moranis went to the hospital with pain in his head, back and hip, and still has some pain on his left side.

“He’s doing well. He’s strong. He’s recovering. He has some injuries to his left side.”

The NYPD’s new community affairs rapid response team checked on Moranis. The Rapid Response Team helps many victims of violent crimes to offer support, groceries, or anything support items victims may need.

Actually from security video, it appears the offender was walking southeast on the north side of 70th Street toward Central Park West (and New York’s Central Park) when the battering crime occurred. If this is correct, Congregation Shearith Israel Orthodox synagogue — a Louis Comfort Tiffany-designed neoclassical temple for North America’s first Jewish congregation — would be on the upper-left of the security image.

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for the suspect, and contact the police if he is recognized. Anyone with information about the attack or the suspect is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Citizens can also submit a tip via their website or on Twitter, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
