Car Crash with Tree on Old McHenry Rd North of Route 22 in Long Grove Traps, Injures Teen Driver

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighter/paramedics Long Grove Fire Protection District responded about 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 to a report of a crash into a tree with entrapment on Old McHenry Road near Route 22 in north Long Grove near Hawthorn Woods.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Long Grove firefighter/paramedics arrived to discover a single-vehicle crash with a tree and entrapment. Firefighter/paramedics worked with extrication tools to free a male teen from the crashed vehicle. The driver was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in unincorporated Barrington, where he was initially listed in critical condition. His condition was later upgraded to serious but stable condition.

The initial investigation indicates that the driver, a 19-year-old male of Chicago Heights, was traveling southbound on Old McHenry Road north of Route 22, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on the
west side of the roadway. Witnesses reported the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to losing control.

The Speed Limit on Old McHenry Road on southbound Old McHenry Road north of Route 22 is 45 MPH, according to a Google Maps Street View image captured in August 2019. The Speed Limit is 35 MPH south of Route 22.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. No citations or charges were initially mentioned by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
