Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and firefighter/paramedics from Wauconda Fire District responded about 12:17 p.m. Friday August 7, 2020 to the excavation company Kanzler Excavating, 30846 North Route 12, Volo, to report of a worker who sustained a traumatic injury in a heavy machine. The injured worker was located by a fellow employee who immediately called 911.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a 33-year-old male from Woodstock, whose arm was stuck in a gravel screening machine. The male was deceased upon the arrival of deputies.

Initial investigation determined that the male employee apparently attempted to free some rocks that may have been stuck in the hopper, and his entire right arm sustained major trauma.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2020. The Lake County Sheriff’s office notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the incident.

The incident initially did not appear to be criminal in nature; however, the incident remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
