Smoke Investigation at Sports Page Arlington Heights; Smoldering in Outside Wall Caused by Cigarette Discarded Outside

Firefighters investigate a wall where a discarded cigarette may have caused wall materials to smolder at the exterior front of the Sports Page bar and grill on Rand Road in Arlington Heights.

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 4:54 p.m. Sunday August 16, 2020 to a report of smoke at Sports Page Bar and Grill. Firefighters on arrival discovered smoke near the bottom of a wall at the front of the restaurant. Firefighters pulled away some of the wall and extinguished a smoldering area where a cigarette had ignited some material.

The call was upgraded to a working fire response as a precaution, and no flames were visible. The smoldering materials were extinguished in a short time. Firefighters used a thermal camera to check for any possible extension of fire, and also went to the roof to ensure there was no extension of fire.

No injuries were reported.

According to Sports Page, the incident was caused by a smoldering cigarette that was left outside near the wall of the restaurant.

Sports Page was open for normal business hours. Monday is normally closed, and the bar and grill was ready for business on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
