Republican National Committeeman Chris Ager described his walk with Susan Young, member of DCGOP Council Washington, D.C. to the W Washington D.C. Hotel, 515 15th Street NW after attending the Republican National Convention Night 4 at the White House Thursday, August 27, 2020 in an interview on Fox News Monday morning August 31, 2020. During the interview Ager described the tactics used by the mob. Following are a summary of his comments, and some observations from the video.
A mob began to follow Ager and Young, lead by a female whose entire face was concealed by a mask. She repeatedly asks, “How do you feel about the killing of black individuals?” When she uses foul language, Ager tells her to watch her language. She replies by repeatedly yelling the same foul language. The mob action occurred the same night Sen. Rand Paul and his wife were harassed by a mob walking to their hotel.
Another female, who appears to be wearing body armor, is flanked to the right of the lead, vocal female, and following directly behind Ager and Young. Ager described a handler who was stabilizing the lead female, who at times was walking backwards in front of Ager while repeatedly asking him questions. When Ager and Young arrived at the front entrance of the hotel, they found the door locked. Ager said the doorman appeared to have fumbled and “used the wrong code to open the door,” and then became afraid and fled the area.
Now the lead female says, “You’re blocked now,” while stepping in front of Ager and Young to impede their movement. When Ager slightly brushes the lead female with his left forearm, as a result of the lead female repeatedly stepping in front of him, she shouts and sings repeatedly, “Hands on me again and I will fxxx you up.”
Young remembered there was an entrance in the public parking garage to the Willard Building a short distance to the east, and Ager and Young walked down the ramp to escape the mob. The mob repeatedly chanted while recording their departure. The mob did not follow Ager and Young down the ramp to the Willard Building parking garage, and the incident ended.
Ager noted that the lead female had a “handler” who was directing her and stabilizing her movement. He also noticed there was another zone of larger males in the mob that appeared to be protection for the lead female and her handler.
A few Twitter commenters responding to the video claimed this was not a mob (e.g., “There are no more than 10 people behind him and they are not touching him, just exercising their freedom of speech.”).
