[Begins elapsed time 22:31] Two people were killed and one was seriously wounded by gunfire late Tuesday at a protest over the police shooting of Jacob Blake Jr., Kenosha police said early Wednesday (feed by Washington Post).

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth, Kenosha Police Chief Dan Miskinis, Maj. Gen. Paul E. Knapp, Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian, and Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser spoke at a press conference beginning at 1:00 p.m. CST on Wednesday.

Police said a shooting last night killed a 26 year-old Silver Lake resident and a 36 year-old Kenosha resident, and injured a 26 year-old West Allis resident.

Officials did not reveal any information regarding what led up to the shootings at the riot

Sheriff David Beth claimed he “did not even know the man’s name” and told the press to just relax.

Sheriff David Beth chuckled when he answered how wires were crossed regarding the National Guard being requested at the scene of riots. Sheriff Beth said he thought the city requested the National Guard and the city thought that the county had requested the National Guard. Sheriff David Beth claimed the mixup was his fault. Maj. Gen. Knapp said the National Guard was preparing anyway. The request was made about 3:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2020.

Kenosha Police Chief Dan Miskinis did not refer to the riot shooting suspect as an Illinois resident. He only referred to the suspect as an out-of-state resident. Miskinis also said he did know whether the suspect was art of a larger group. Earlier in the press conference, Sheriff David Beth said, “I think (emphasizing think) they were part of this group that wanted to deputize them.” He was referring to the shooter or shooters(?) that he thought (but didn’t know for sure) might have been involved in the shooting that killed two people.

Both Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth and Kenosha Police Chief would not discuss whether other suspects being investigated regarding the riot shootings.

A member of the press asked Kenosha Police Chief Dan Miskinis why they were only having this conversation now on Wednesday August 26, 2020 when the shooting of Jacob Blake, age 29, occurred on Sunday August 23, 2020, especially when the current press conference referred to misinformation as a factor “contributing to what’s happening.” Miskinis denied that officials knew that misinformation had a bearing on the outcome. Miskinis would not answer a question regarding whether Jacob Blake Jr. was asked to drop a knife.

When asked by the press how rioting damage was allowed to happen when the message was that he not going to allow the city to burn, Chief Miskinis said he hoped the citizens of Kenosha were intelligent enough to understand that there only so many things they can do with available resources.

Mayor John Antaramian is affiliated with the Democratic Party. When asked if he thought the lack of information from the Department of Justice was factor in fueling this violence, Antaramian said he would take some of the responsibility for the lack of information and said, “I’m not good at this.”
