Head-on Crash with an Asphalt Dump Truck Kills Driver of a Subaru Legacy at Lake Cook Rd and Raupp Blvd, Buffalo Grove

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 2:29 p.m. Monday June 20, 2020 to a report of a head-on crash at Lake Cook Road and Raupp Boulevard. Tower 25’s crew discovered the crash in the eastbound lanes of Lake Cook Road and reported a car just crashed with all eastbound lanes blocked. Firefighters discovered the driver was unconscious and entrapped in the vehicle. Firefighters began work on extrication and used a charged line to standby in case of fire. The victim was freed by 2:34 p.m. and was removed from the car by 2:44 p.m.

The driver, identified as John Rodgers IV, age 49 of Buffalo Grove, was transported by Buffalo Grove firefighter/paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition and died Monday night June 20, 2020.

For an unknown reason John Rodgers IV, who was traveling westbound on Lake Cook Road, went across lanes into oncoming traffic. The driver’s 2015 Subaru Legacy crashed head-on into a 1995 Peterbilt asphalt dump truck in the eastbound lanes. The driver of the truck did not initially report any injuries.

Lake Cook Road was closed until about 7:00 p.m. for an extended crash investigation. The Speed Limit on Lake Cook Road is 45 MPH with a School Speed Zone of 25 MPH for St Mary Catholic School located nearby.

The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team of the Northwest Suburban Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT-STAR) was activated to assist Buffalo Grove Police Department with the investigation.

Buffalo Grove Department is asking any witnesses to the crash to call Traffic Unit Officer Michael Carlson at 847-459-2560.
