The CDC has three new symptom categories that were added to its official symptom list:

Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

The new symptom categories were quietly declared related to COVID-19 on May 13, 2020, and were added to the existing list of symptoms connected to Coronavirus COVID-19 on an official online CDC document titled “Symptoms of Coronavirus.”

Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting, and Diarrhea were added to the end of the following official CDC list:

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

The CDC includes a disclaimer that states, “This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19.”

Several popular online health sources have not included the updates. For example, WebMD as of June 27, 2020, does not include congestion, runny nose or vomiting in its bullet point list on its page on COVID-19 symptoms. Only runny nose is mentioned in a paragraph below the bullet point list of symptoms.

Also as of June 27, 2020, an article from Mayo Clinic titled “Unusual coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms: What are they?” does not include “runny nose” or “congestion.” The article describes “Loss of smell or taste … without nasal congestion. Unfortunately, the article from Mayo Clinic is not dated.

In a main article from Mayo Clinic titled Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that is not dated has a “Symptoms & causes” tab that does NOT include runny nose and congestion. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea is mentioned in a paragraph below the Mayo Clinic bullet point list of symptoms.

An article title “COVID-19 basics” from Harvard Health Publishing Harvard Medical School dated June 12, 2020 does not included the symptoms of runny nose or congestion; but does include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

Google includes the three new symptoms in its search summary page for “covid-19 symptoms“.
