NYPD police officers protecting Christopher Columbus Statue at Columbus Circle near Central Park.

NYPD police officers on Friday June 19, 2020 protected the Christopher Columbus statue at Columbus Circle near the southwest corner of Central Park. Police moved in on bikes and on foot to prevent protesters from gathering directly around the statue.

The crowd chanted “Take it Down” and “Quit your job” to police officers.

One woman repeatedly told police they were protecting the statue of a man that committed genocide.
