Mayor Lori Lightfoot was followed by Chicago Police Supt. David Brown who spoke about the Minneapolis incident as not representative of law enforcement across the United States.

Brown explained that, “protests start out peacefully, and then another element comes in and they start out angry, mean-spirited, harmful, hurting …”

Responding to a question from WTTW media, Lightfoot said there was no consideration to call up the National Guard. She answered with a terse ‘no.’

The vast majority of people who assembled yesterday and today did what we would have expected, which is peaceful protest. But for the other element, they came to stir up a mess, create havoc, and we’re not having it in our city.
