Two Killed, 1 Seriously Hurt in Head-on Crash Involving Step Van and Minivan on Rand Rd (US) Near Route 176, Wauconda

Two men were killed in a wrong-way crash about 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning on Rand Road south of Route 176 in Wauconda.

Police officers from Wauconda Police Department and Wauconda Fire District firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:15 a.m. Thursday April 16, 2020 to a head-on collision in the westbound (northbound) lanes of Rand Road (US 12) just south of Route 176.

Two people were killed in an SUV or minivan and another person was seriously injured in the step van. The person in the step van was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The step van involved in the crash is an A.H. Entertainers vehicle based in Rolling Meadows at 1151 Rohlwing Road. A.H. Entertainers is a coin-operated amusement company that installs and services coin-operated amusement machines and food vending machines in Chicagoland and southern Wisconsin. The company began business in Arlington Heights in 1939, and has three location — Rolling Meadows, McHenry, and Kenosha.

Two people were killed after a wrong-way crash in Wauconda (WGN).

Initial crash scene analysis indicated the step van was northbound in the northbound land and was struck by an SUV or minivan traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting the Wauconda Police Department with the investigation of the crash. Initially there was no official indication of the cause of the crash or the direction of travel of each vehicle.

At 9:00 a.m. Rand Road (US 12) was still closed between W Lake Shore Drive and Route 176.
