Fatal crash involving an SUV with a vehicle fire on Wolf Road west of Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling, Illinois.

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Wheeling responded about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2020 to a report of a serious crash with fire and entrapment.

One person was killed in a crash that involved an SUV leaving the roadway and striking one or two trees on the north side parkway of Wolf Road, just west of Milwaukee Avenue.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV was completely involved with fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which destroyed the SUV and a pine tree. The identity of the victim was not initially released.

From observations at the scene and observations of investigators working at the scene, it appeared that the driver of the SUV was probably northbound on Wolf Road traveling at a high rate of speed at a curve that turns eastbound toward Milwaukee Avenue. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, and hit a parked, unoccupied vehicle and a tree in the block of 600 North Wolf Road on a curve between Wolf Court and Milwaukee Avenue.

Wheeling Police Department requested crash investigation assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team (MCAT-STAR). Wheeling Road was closed down for several hours just west of Milwaukee Avenue.

The information in this article is an early report published before any summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
