Google Confirms It’s Partnering with US Government Developing a Nationwide Website Including Information about COVID-19 Symptoms, Risk And Testing Information

Google confirmed late Saturday, March 14, 2020 that Google is partnering with the US Government in developing a nationwide website that includes information about COVID-19 symptoms, risk and testing information. Google is also working on a “home page promotion” to promote greater awareness of simple measures citizens can take to prevent the spread of the disease. Work being done by Google’s sister company Verily to launch a pilot website that will enable individuals to do a risk assessment and be scheduled for testing at sites in the Bay Area.

Verily Life Sciences, or Verily (formerly known as Google Life Sciences is Alphabet Inc.’s research organization devoted to the study of life sciences. Google Life Sciences was formerly a division of Google X, until August 10, 2015, when Sergey Brin announced that the organization would become an independent subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. Google Life Sciences was renamed Verily on December 7, 2015.

Besides the latest project with the United States government to fight COVID-19, projects include …

development of comprehensive solutions that combine devices, software, medicine, and professional care to enable simple and intelligent disease management for people with diabetes, in partnership with Sanofi;

Development of miniaturized continuous glucose monitors (CGM) in partnership with Dexcom;

collection of genetic, molecular, and wearable device information from enough people to create a picture of what comprises a healthy human being, known as The Baseline Study;

development of surgical robotics, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson;

development and commercialization of bioelectronic medicines, in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline;

a health-tracking wristband;

a disease-detecting nanoparticle platform working with the wristband, known as Tricorder;

smart shoes for health tracking and fall detection; and

a spoon for people with tremors.

Several news sources reported that the president lied on Friday, March 13, 2020 when he said Google was working on a coronavirus screening website after he declared a National Emergency with health care leaders at his side at a White House press conference.
