The late February snow storm forecast continues to trend toward less snowfall and a more southerly track of the main narrow snow band. As expected, the National Weather Service has dropped the Winter Storm Watch for all of Illinois and moved the Winter Storm Watch to approximately the north half of Indiana. Lake County (Illinois), McHenry County, Kane County and counties west and north have been excluded from the Winter Weather Advisory as well.

The Winter Weather Advisory band runs from northeast Missouri to about a middle third of Illinois to northeast Illinois to southern Michigan. Less accumulation is forecast in the northern edge of the band and more accumulation is forecast in the southern edge of the band.

In Arlington Heights, rain and snow flurries may start about 11 a.m. Then expect about 0.1 inch of snow accumulation with mixed snow and rain from 1 PM to 5 PM Tuesday. Next, expect an all-snow period from 5 PM Tuesday to 5 PM Wednesday. Arlington Heights will likely accumulate total snow accumulation amounting to 2.0 inches or less on streets, driveways and sidewalks, and 2.5 inches on grass.

Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) in northeast Illinois was clear at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, but showed rain precipitation approaching from central Illinois at 7:50 a.m.

Today: A slight chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain between noon and 4pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a north northeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tonight: Rain and snow likely before 8pm, then snow. Low around 30. Blustery, with a north northeast wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Wednesday: Snow, mainly before 1pm. High near 32. Breezy, with a north wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow before 7pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 19. North northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.
