Authorities released the name of a 45-year-old woman from Zion, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Waukegan. Jenny Gaston was apparently crossing Sheridan Road just south of Greenwood Avenue when she was struck. Police believe the vehicle was going southbound when Jenny Gaston was hit on or near the median.
Waukegan Police and firefighter/paramedics responded to the intersection of Sheridan Road and Greenwood Avenue to multiple calls of a person lying in the street and found Jenny Gaston with serious injuries, according to Waukegan Police Department.
Gaston was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead.
Waukegan police investigators say there were no witnesses to the fatal hit-and-run crash. Initially no surveillance video capturing the crime was discovered at any area businesses.
Debris left behind by the vehicle are initially the only evidence available. Police did not initially release information about the make and model of the vehicle.
The Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division and Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the crash.
