One hurt in crash at Thomas Street and Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 5:38 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020 to a report of a crash with injuries at Arlington Heights Road and Thomas Street.

One person was injured and transported to Northwest Community Hospital in what appeared to be a possible left-turn type head-on crash in the intersection.

The crash involved a Lincoln MKC and a Hyundai Tucson — both newer models.

Thomas Middle School parents take note: The Arlington Heights Road and Thomas Street intersection is a poorly lit intersection, especially on Thomas Street west and east of Arlington Heights Road. CARDINAL NEWS has covered a lot of night crashes, and this intersection seemed noticeably dark. Same dark situation was noticed at a crash at Thomas Street and Belmont Avenue on Friday, December 13, 2019 — particularly dark conditions for such a close proximity to a middle school.

There are only two street lights on two of the four corners of the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Thomas Street.

The next streetlight west of Arlington Heights Road along Thomas Street is about 315 feet away — almost the length of a football field.

The next streetlight north of Thomas Street along Arlington Heights Road is about 375 feet away at Lynnwood Street.

The next streetlight south of Thomas Street along Arlington Heights Road is about 580 feet away.

The next streetlight east of Arlington Heights Road along Thomas Street is over 500 feet away at Belmont Avenue. There is no streetlight mid-block on Thomas Street illuminating the proximity of Thomas Middle School.

In contrast, near a shopping center at Lillian Avenue there is a streetlight only 185 feet south of Lillian along Arlington Heights Road; and only about 135 feet north of Lillian Avenue along Arlington Heights Road.

There is only one streetlight at Thomas Street and Belmont Avenue.
