No Injuries in Townhouse Fire on Smith St Near Honeysuckle Ct, Rolling Meadows

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Rolling Meadows and Palatine responded about 8:26 p.m. to a townhouse fire in the block of 2600 Smith Street in Rolling Meadows. Fire was showing through the roof upon arrival of firefighters, and the fire incident was upgraded to a “Working Fire Response (Code 4)” by 8:31 p.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and initially no injuries were reported. The status of some pets that were inside the townhouse is initially unknown.

Firefighters worked at least hand lines and a water stream from their ladder truck. Fire command reported water on the fire by 8:36 p.m. and working a transitional attack, but firefighters changed to a defensive attack. Quint 85’s crew reported the primary search was all clear in the basement, first floor and second floor by 8:41 p.m. Fire attack crews and fire search crews were ordered out of the building by 8:42 p.m. for a switch to defensive attack. Defensive mode was confirmed for all crews by 8:43 p.m. All fire companies were PAR by 8:44 p.m. (all firefighters accounted for by Personnel Accountability Report).

The exposure townhouse unit next door was declared all clear by 8:46 p.m. A second next-door townhouse unit was declared all clear by 8:51 p.m.

Fire attack switched back to interior about 8:55 p.m. and a transitional attack at the rear of the townhouse by about 8:55 p.m. The stream from the truck was shut down by about 8:58 p.m.

Command reported the main body of fire was out by 9:03 p.m. and firefighters were working on hots spots and beginning overhaul.

Firefighters from Schaumburg were assigned mutual aid at the scene, and firefighters from Hoffman Estates were assigned station standby in Rolling Meadows.
