Firefighter/paramedics staged nearby while Buffalo Grove police officers secured the area, and were allowed to move up to the scene of the injured man by 11:20 p.m. The injured man was transported to an unspecified hospital. Drops of blood on the floor and blood smears on walls and doors were visible on three levels near a stairwell at the south entrance of the condominium building.

A task force was dispatched to investigate the scene, and a witness said he noticed a Highland Park police unit at the scene around 1:00 a.m. The Major Case Assistance Team van was NOT seen at the scene, and a decontamination and restoration crew was cleaning up the scene by about noon.
