First Lady Melania Trump was booed at her “Be Best” initiative for Baltimore area residents on Tuesday, November 25, 2019. Melania Trump remained positive amid boos and chatter from young attendees at a youth summit for increasing awareness about the opioid crisis in the United States.

“Thank you to all of the students who are here. I am so proud of you for the bravery it takes to share that you have been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic in some way.”

— First Lady Melania Trump

She spoke positively above persistent talking and booing in the audience, consisting mostly of middle school and high school students in the UMBC Event Center auditorium at the University of Maryland.

First Lady Melania Trump was booed as she took the stage, while she was speaking, and as she left the stage.

Kate Bennett, a reporter for CNN and the author of Free, Melania: The Unauthorized Biography, was on the scene reporting.
