GOES-East GEOCOLOR Clouds Wednesday October 31 2019 at 8:11 AM.

Moisture is approaching from the Gulf of Mexico and sub-freezing air is approaching from the west and north — and that makes snow. Forecasters are calling the weather system a potent autumn storm, which will continue to develop and deepen today and tonight. At O’Hare International Airport, light snow began mixing with light rain sometime between 3:51 a.m. and 4:51 a.m. and a small amount of snow accumulated on cold rooftops, tree limbs, shrubs, grass, and vehicles parked outside.

Sub-freezing air is moving in, especially this afternoon. Most of the snow accumulation, including pavement coverage, will occur between 1 PM and 4 PM — including lake-enhance convergence. Wind gusts are expected to be from north-northwest and shifting from northwest by 3PM and west by 10 PM. Gust are expected to peak at 39 MPH 3 PM to 4 PM, tapering down to 13 MPH by 4 AM Friday.

Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows a large area of snow precipitation over northern Illinois at 8:45 a.m.
