Deer Crashes Through Window of Salon and Exits the Front Door in Lake Ronkonkoma in Long Island, New York

A deer startled customers at a hair salon on Long Island after jumping through the window, running to the back of the salon, and running out the front door.

Suffolk County police and area paramedics responded to an unusual call Saturday. During business hours at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday October 5, 2019 a deer crashed through the front window of Hair Salon at 342 Portion Road, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY. A woman was sitting on a couch exactly where the deer entered through the glass window. She was struck and suffered leg and head pain. She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

The deer ran to the back of the store and ran back out the front door within 30 seconds. The deer was gone by the time police and medics arrived. Initially it was unknown if the deer, with large antlers, was injured.

There is a fairly large woods about 1.3 miles northwest of the salon and north of Lake Ronkonkoma. There is a smaller woods about 1,500 feet northeast of the salon. Rocky Point State Pin Barrens Preserve and Connetquot River State park Preserve are 9 and 3 miles away, respectively.

Ronkonkoma is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the center of Long Island in the Town of Islip, New York. The population of the CDP was 19,082 at the 2010 census.
