A male stabbing suspect is still at large after a stabbing at River Road and Higgins Road earlier in September. Rosemont police responded about 6 p.m. Wednesday September 4, 2019 to a report that a male offender stabbed another person at River Road and Higgins Road in Rosemont. Police and firefighter/paramedics initially responded to the Mobil gas station at 9401 Higgins Road.
The victim, who had left the CTA Blue Line station and was walking north on River Road, suffered at least one stab wound to the lower abdomen and was transported to a trauma center, according to a news release from the Rosemont Public Safety Department. On Thursday, September 5, 2019 the victim’s condition was described as stabilized, and the victim was released from the hospital.
Video surveillance showed the victim leaving the CTA Blue Line and walking northbound on River Road. Witnesses reported that a physical altercation involving the offender and victim initially occurred at the CTA Blue Line in Rosemont. A witness reported that after the victim left the CTA station, the offender pulled out a small knife and followed the victim to the Mobil gas station. The male offender ran toward the victim and a violent altercation occurred at the corner of River Road and Higgins Road. The offender then fled southbound on River Road.
When the victim was attacked and stabbed at the corner of River Road and Higgins Road, video surveillance captured the offender making several attempts to stab the victim.
The offender was described as a middle-aged male/black about 5’ 7” inches tall and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black and gray shoes and a green backpack — possibly with a camouflage print. The offender ran south on River Road after the stabbing, according to the Rosemont Public Safety Department.
Initially the victim was uncooperative with the Rosemont detectives pursuing the investigation; however, the detectives are continuing to pursue the investigation because of the violent nature of the crime.
Rosemont Public Safety Department police investigators processed the crime scene in an attempt to gather evidence that might be connected to the offender. The Mobil gas station was temporarily closed off with yellow crime scene tape while investigators protected the scene and gathered information at the scene.
