FLIGHT FOR LIFE LANDING ZONE AT CRASH SCENE
Firefighter/paramedics work to extricate a female who was trapped in her SUV following a crash with a pickup truck, then Flight for Life lifts off for a transport to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.
Streamwood firefighter/paramedics and police responded about 9:01 p.m. Tuesday August 20, 2019 to a reported serious crash at Sutton Road and Irving Park Road in Streamwood.
A silver Acura MDX and SUV and pickup truck were involved in a crash. Witnesses on scene said that a female driver was driving the Acura MDX, and a male driver was driving the pickup truck when they crashed head-on in the intersection. The female driver was trapped in her Acura MDX, which was severely damaged at the front end. Firefighters immediately discovered they would be working a difficult extrication, and requested a Flight for Life helicopter be dispatched to the scene. Extra rescue crews were also immediately dispatched. Firefighter/paramedics from Bartlett, Hanover Park, and Hoffman Estates were on the scene joining Streamwood firefighter/paramedics to rescue the driver from her SUV.
A Hoffman Estates Fire Department tower ladder crew was dispatched about 9:30 p.m. in case they were needed for relief of crews, who had been working with extrication tools for about 30 minutes.
A Flight for Life Helicopter landed north of the scene on Sutton Road (Route 59) at about 9:40 p.m. The female patient in the Acura MDX was extricated by 9:58 p.m. and was transferred to the awaiting flight for Life helicopter, and then airlift to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. Late Tuesday night, the emergency department Good Samaritan Hospital was working to stabilize her condition.
Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the pickup truck was walking after the crash, and didn’t appear to have any injuries.
The crash is under investigation. The intersection has a photo-enforced red light camera. The Speed Limit on Sutton Road near the intersection is 45 MPH according to Google Maps Street View. The Speed Limit on Irving Park Road near the intersection is also 45 MPH according to Google Maps Street View.
