FATAL HIT-AND-RUN CRASH ON I-294 NEAR FASHION OUTLETS OF CHICAGO AND IMPACT FIELD NEAR ROSEMONT
Illinois State police and Rosemont firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:11 a.m. to 12:16 a.m. Sunday July 21, 2019 to a report of a crash with an unconscious person in a vehicle on I-294 southbound at Mile Marker 40 on the left shoulder. CPR was administered at the scene before firefighter/paramedics arrived.
Illinois State Police discovered that an unknown vehicle struck a black Nissan Murano while the driver was traveling southbound in the far right lane at 12:11 a.m. The impact of the unknown vehicle with the Nissan Murano pushed the Nissan into the center median wall. The driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene.
Inside the Nissan Murano, Michael Black, age 43 of Chicago, was unresponsive and CPR was started. Rosemont firefighter/paramedics transported Michael Black to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General, where he was pronounced dead.
Sherilyn Williams, age 51 of Battle Creek, Michigan, was a passenger in the vehicle, and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Her injuries were initially believed to non-life-threatening.
Illinois State Police troopers who are investigating the crash, reported Black was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
