Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 3:05 p.m. Thursday July 18, 2019 to a report of a domestic battery in progress in the block of 12900 Peacock Road, Beach Park. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a 70-year-old man with multiple sharp-force injuries lying on the floor. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies administered aid to the victim before he was transported via Beach Park firefighter/paramedics ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where he was listed in critical condition.
The initial responding deputies quickly ascertained that the man’s son, George W. Bryce, age 21, of the same address, was responsible for causing the injuries to his father. He was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Further investigation revealed George Bryce and the victim were involved in a domestic-related incident, and during the incident George Bryce attacked the victim with a pair of garden shears.
On Friday, July 19, 2019, Sheriff’s Detectives were informed the 70-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 1:28 p.m. Friday. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to Vista East Medical Center and took possession of the victim’s body. An autopsy is being scheduled and identification of the deceased will be released following the autopsy, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Following the initial phase of the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charging George W. Bryce with Attempt First Degree Murder. Additional charges are pending, and George Bryce remains held at the Lake County Jail.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
