Buffalo Grove police officers arrested two male suspects charged with different offenses after a traffic stop on Buffalo Grove Road near Bernard Drive on Saturday June 1, 2019. Rafael Rodriguez Jr., 20, of the block of 1500 Sanders Court in Wheeling, was stopped Saturday for speeding on Buffalo Grove Road near Bernard Drive and charged speeding over the statutory limit and two counts of DUI. A male passenger, Eduardo A. Leon, 18, of the block of 1200 Mae Court in Wheeling, was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon after he was found with a revolver reported stolen from Detroit in 1969, according to Buffalo Grove Police Department.
After the driver Rafael Rodriguez was taken into custody, a .22-caliber revolver was recovered from the vehicle and found to contain seven spent cartridges in the eight-round chamber, according to Buffalo Grove Police Department. A computer check found it listed as stolen 50 years ago.
The passenger, Eduardo A. Leon, stated that the gun was his, according to Buffalo Grove Police.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony, against Eduardo A. Leon because didn’t have a valid firearm owners identification card (FOID card) or a concealed carry license.
Rafael Rodriguez is scheduled for a court date of July 9, 2019 for the DUI and speeding charges.
Eduardo A. Leon is scheduled for a court date of June 28, 2019 for the weapons charge in Cook County Circuit Court.
Neither suspect were listed as inmates in custody in Cook County jail, and were presumably out on bail.
