Chicago Tribune’s Charles Selle Decries Lack of Legal Attention to Ethlyene Oxide Emissions Compared to AB Specialty Silicones’ Explosion Effect on Environment

#ad▼

A lawsuit filed in June 2019 in Lake County Circuit Court against AB Specialty Silicones complains that the explosion and fire created air pollution and that the resulting firefighting operations resulted in chemicals and contaminated water seeping into storm sewers and and contaminating a nearby wetland.

Waukegan officials also estimate more than $1 million in property loss was caused to the area immediately near the site with seven neighboring buildings damaged.

Selle claims the lawsuit surprised the owners of AB Specialty Silicones.

Selle contrasts the AB Specialty Silicones lawsuit to the lack of attention to ethylene emissions from the Medline Industries facility in Waukegan and Vantage Specialty Chemicals in Gurnee, a few miles from the AB Specialty Silicone site.
