Mundelein police responded about 1:13 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 to a report of a man with a gun threatening employees inside the Ruprecht Company facility at 1301 Allanson Road. 9-1-1 dispatchers tried to obtain additional information, but the caller said his phone battery was going to die and ended the call.

None of the employees at the business were aware of a potential incident when officers arrived on the scene. Before the false call was discovered and Fletcher was identified, police searched inside the industrial building for a suspect and any discarded weapons. Police found no gun and no threatening individual.

Police also closed Allanson Road near the Ruprecht Company between Butterfield Road and Washington Boulevard for about two hours early Monday afternoon — opening the road just before 3:15 p.m. About 200 employees, who were evacuated from their workplace, waited outside during the search. Arriving employees were required to wait by the road block. Larsen Manufacturing and an Amazon delivery station are located near Ruprecht Company.

Investigators later identified Antonio Fletcher as the 9-1-1 caller, and discovered that he made the report to create a “distraction” that would allow him to leave work early and mask his absence in the process, according to Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther. Fletcher also told investigators that he had been working at the business since 6:00 a.m. and wanted to leave.

Antonio P. Fletcher, age 37, of the block 400 East Hawley Street in Mundelein, was charged with disorderly conduct — filing a false police report, which is a Class 4 felony, according to Mundelein police. Fletcher is scheduled to appear in Lake County court May 7, 2019 in Waukegan.
