Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:46 AM Wednesday May 15, 2019 to a report of a brush fire in Deer Grove East forest preserve southwest of Rand Road and Hicks Road Palatine, Il Palatine, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that flames and smoke were showing in Deer Grove — The Forest Preserve District of Cook County.
The brush fire was located in Deer Grove East in the proximity of residences on Preserve Drive on the north side of the forest preserve.
Firefighters were working with flappers for extinguishment on at least one of two fires. Firefighters were also monitoring a fire in Deer Grove East south of Lake Cook Road that was a good distance from any structures.
One fire was in the proximity of Preserve Drive and also the UPS property located at Lake Cook Road and Hicks Road. Firefighters were monitoring to assure that no structures were threatened.
Winds have been light and variable, and also predominantly from the West and Northwest, ranging from about 3 MPH to 7 MPH.
Firefighters from Barrington Countryside, Arlington Heights and Hoffman Estates assisted Palatine firefighters.
