Shooting of Male Victim Through Window in Basement Apartment in Unincorporated Mundelein Is Suspected Gang Activity Crime

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday April 22, 2019 to a basement apartment at a house in the block of 26200 North Hickory Avenue, unincorporated Mundelein, to a report of a man shot.

Sheriff’s Deputies upon arrival found a 22-year-old resident of the home injured with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Preliminary investigation shows the man was shot while in his basement-level bedroom by someone who fired a handgun through a window from outside of the residence. Police do not believe the shooting was a drive-by shooting.

Police suspect the shooting was gang-related and the victim was the intended target. No suspects were in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.

The incident in a neighborhood near Route 83/Route 60 also just south of Diamond Lake, remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division.
