Rolling Meadows police and firefighters responded about 11:06 a.m. Wednesday April 24, 2019 to a report of a fire at Egg’lectic Cafe, 2905 Algonquin Road.
Firefighters on arrival discovered flames and smoke at the back side of the restaurant, but firefighters assigned interior didn’t see anything in the dining area. As they walked to the back, they encountered more smoke.
The fire department was elevated to a MABAS Box Alarm and as extra firefighters arrived, most of the fire was discovered between the roof structure and a dropped ceiling. Firefighters focused their efforts on an interior attack, which required about an hour to extinguish. The fire was struck out by 12:10 p.m.
One firefighter from Schaumburg Fire Department was treated for a minor injury at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
At times Algonquin Road traffic was limited to one lane between Route 53 and New Wilke Road because of staging of extra fire department apparatus at the scene.
The fire is estimated to have caused $100,000 in damage.
The City of Rolling Meadows inspectors are checking for structural damage, but initially it did not appear that the fire caused structural damage. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
