Crews are on the scene of a fire at Newly Weds Foods, a factory near North Keeler Avenue and West Wrightwood Avenue in the Kelvyn Park neighborhood.

Chicago police and firefighters and paramedics responded about 4:45 PM Tuesday April 2, 2019 to a report of a fire in a large factory at Wrightwood Ave and Keeler Ave Chicago, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire at Newly Weds Foods, which is classified as a restaurant wholesaler, and according to their official website is a global purveyor of customized breaders, batters, seasonings, and functional ingredients. The fire response was elevated eventually to a 5-11 Alarm at 7:11 p.m. and fire command reported heavy fire still ongoing as late as 8:41 p.m. The 5-11 Alarm was Struck Out, and the Level I Hazmat was Secured at 10:07 p.m.

One firefighter was injured about 6:30 p.m. and transported to Illinois Masonic, and listed in Good Condition.

Train service was halted on Metra’s Milwaukee North line as brush and rubbish ignited near the train station on Fullerton nearby. Metra train service has since been restored; however with extensive delays. Trains may not be able to stop at the Healy station until further notice.

Newly Weds Foods is located at 4125 W Wrightwood Avenue.

Battalion Chief 7 on arrival reported a large factory fire at 4:48 pm.

E76 assigned west side of building.

Still and Box Alarm at 4:50 p.m.

2-11 Alarm at 5:00 p.m. on orders of 2-2-2.

Level 1 Hazmat on orders of 2-1-13 (not 2-1-3) and request for an additional Tower Ladder by 5:12 pm.

3-11 Alarm at 5:22 p.m. on orders of 2-1-5.

Report that fire has crossed the railroad tracks at approximately 2500 North Pulaski at 5:24 p.m.

Structural collapse in the middle of the structure at 5:27 p.m.

Rubbish and brush on the Metra tracks igniting near the Metra station at 4040 Fullerton at 5:31 p.m.

Separate Still Alarm requested at Pulaski and Fullerton to investigate a separate building fire related to the factory fire at 5:34 p.m. — T36 assigned. Confirmed no fire, just heavy smoke.

TL14 and TL23 setting up outside the collapse zone by 5:53 p.m.

2-1-4 in command at 5:53 p.m.

Additional tower ladder requested on orders of 2-1-5 and TL10 assigned at 6:22 p.m.

2-14 update reports the SQD2 snorkel working, three tower ladders in place, internal structure collapse with heavy volume of fire, and two multiversals working and all companies working by 6:07 p.m.

Fuel truck on the scene at 6:35 p.m.

Command just west of the tracks on Wrightwood.

Update by 2-1-4: 5 master streams, multiversal on the Charlie Side, three tower ladders working on heavy volume of fire, and the fire is contained inside the structure by 6:42 p.m.

Injured firefighter transported by A48 crew Code Green to Illinois Masonic at 6:43 p.m.

Battery Truck 6-3-9 dispatched by 6:45 p.m.

Hose Wagon requested by 6:46 p.m. — assigned to Fullerton and Pulaski by 6:50 p.m.

2-1-4 requesting two additional engines by 7:09 p.m.

5-11 Alarm on orders of 2-1-4 at 7:11 pm.

E108 assigned to pickup Big Mo Turret Wagon 6-7-3 assigned to the scene by 7:11 p.m.

Update by 2-1-3: heavy fire on Side A and making good progress by 8:41 p.m.
