Teen Girl Killed in Head-on Crash on Route 12 Just South of Case Rd, Wauconda

Wauconda police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:15 p.m. Friday March 15, 2019 to a report of a serious crash on Route 12 just south of Case Road (2100 North US 12).

A male teen in one vehicle and three of four teens in another vehicle were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. At least one of the victims was trapped in a vehicle, and later died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Identity Released for Teen Girl Killed in Head-on Crash on US 12 Near Case Rd, Wauconda

According to the Wauconda Police Department, an 18-year-old male driver from Cary was driving a Hyundai Elantra southbound on Route 12 and crossed the center median into the northbound lanes near Case Road. The car crashed into a Ford Focus heading northbound. A 16-year-old girl was driving the Ford Focus with two 14-year-old passengers and one 15-year-old passenger.

The 16 year-old driver of the Ford Focus died from her injuries.

One of the 14-year-old passengers in the Ford Focus was transported to Northwestern McHenry Hospital where she was treated and released.

The conditions of the three other teenagers is unknown at this time.

The accident remains under investigation, and an extended on-scene investigation was conducted overnight. Northbound Rand Road did not reopen until sometime between 6:15 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Charges are pending.
