Woman Arrested After “Miscommunication” With Ald. Joe Moreno About “Stolen” Car; Now CPD Investigating Possibility of False Police Report

CBS 2 political reporter Derrick Blakley reports on what Ald. Joe Moreno is now saying after reporting his car stolen when a girlfriend said he had lent it to her.

Chicago Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno said his 2016 Audi was stolen when he filed a police report in January 2019, but now Moreno laughs it off, saying it was only a miscommunication.

Chicago police charged 35-year-old Liliya Hrabar with criminal trespass to the Audi after she was seen driving it Sunday, February 3, 2019 — one month after Moreno reported it stolen. Police had no proof Hrabar stole Moreno’s car — only that she was criminally trespassing inside the vehicle. The Criminal Trespass charge was later dropped.

Hrabar showed CBS 2’s Derrick Blakley text messages — allegedly between Moreno and Hrabar — that show permission to use the car, and even a confirmation that Moreno agreed to arrange an Uber driver to pick her up to bring her to his house to get the car.

CBS Chicago’s report includes an interview with opposing Aldermanic Candidate Daniel La Spata, who described this incident as the latest in a long string of “troubling incidents” … La Spata called into question Moreno’s ability to carry the dignity, respect and integrity that 1st Ward residents are calling for in their leadership.

The CBS Chicago video also reports on a questionable encounter with a building owner with questionable comments about zoning after the building owner evicted a tenant that contributed to Moreno’s campaign.

In July 2012 Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno tried to block Chick-fil-A’s effort to build its second Chicago location, planned for the Logan Square neighborhood. Blocking the restaurant approval was based on the Chick-fil-A’s professed opposition to same-sex marriage, but a deal was reached between Moreno and the restaurant in September 2012.
