VIDEO: Water busts through dining room wall at pizzeria, Armand’s Pizzeria and Italian restaurant at Campbell Street and Vail Avenue in the downtown dining district in Arlington Heights.
Arlington Heights police and firefighters responded about 9:59 a.m. Friday February 1, 2019 to a report of a broken water pipe at Armand’s Pizzeria, 101 West Campbell Street. Police and firefighters arrived to find a water stream pushing straight out of the wall in the west dining room at Armand’s. Firefighters and restaurant staff went to work to set up a temporary dike system to divert water out a side door, while public works crews worked on shutting off the water. The water was shut off, and water was cleared off of the dining room hardwood floor.
Restaurant staff hustled to get the restaurant open, and hoped the water service for their business would be returned to normal. Water was restored by about 12:20 p.m. and the restaurant was back up and running for business, according to a restaurant staff member.
Firefighters all over Chicagoland were busy doing salvage work to prevent excessive water damage at businesses and homes. “Broken water pipe” were probably the most common three words in a phrase heard on Chicagoland fire radios today.
