NO INJURIES: VIDEO of the scene at the CVS at 4580 Route 173 in Zion with a report from CBS Chicago’s Charlie De Mar after Nina Allen drove her Jeep Cherokee into a police SUV and the CVS building.

Zion police responded about 6:45 p.m. Friday February 1, 2019 to a report of a “possible intoxicated motorist weaving in the road, crossing the center lines and nearly crashing into a snow bank” on southbound Green Bay Road just north of Route 173.

The citizen 9-1-1 caller provided updated information to 9-1-1 dispatchers while following the erratically-driven vehicle and while watching the driver pull a Jeep Cherokee with Wisconsin license plates into the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy at 4580 Route 173.

On arrival, Zion police officers reportedly spotted a dark gray Jeep Cherokee parked outside the CVS with one occupant sitting inside the driver’s seat in the vehicle. One police officer pulled a police SUV behind the Jeep while another parked a police vehicle near the passenger side of the Jeep Cherokee.

According to the statement from Zion Police Department, officers recognized the driver as Nina E. Allen “from prior police contacts” and asked her to exit her vehicle.

“Officers repeatedly asked Nina Allen to exit the vehicle; however, she refused to comply,” according to the Zion Police Department. Then Nina E. Allen turned the ignition key, started her engine, and began to rev the engine. She then backed into the squad car, crashing into the front end of the squad car that was parked behind behind her vehicle.

“Officers quickly moved out of the way to avoid being struck as the driver continued to ram the squad car with her vehicle (eight to nine) times. Nina then rammed her vehicle into the west side of the store three times subsequently entering the store, ” according to a statement from the Zion Police Department. Allen drove her Jeep Cherokee through a brick wall.

No motorists, police officers or people inside the store initially reported any injuries. However, Nina E. Allen on Zion, was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan for treatment of minor injuries.

Nina Allen was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Zion police say felony criminal charges were pending Saturday against a woman suspected of Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer, driving under the influence (DUI) and causing significant damage to the CVS building, contents inside the building, a Zion Police Department vehicle and her own vehicle. Jeep Cherokee was driven about 30 feet inside the CVS store through the cosmetics section, damaging shelves, displays and products. The City of Zion Building Department closed the CVS store until the hole in the wall and structural damage can be secured.

Nina Allen was previously scheduled to report to the Kenosha County Jail on Saturday, February 2, 2019 to serve an 80-day sentence for a separate offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI).
