Gusts of 60 MPH from the west have been observed in the area associated with a low 987 mb (29.15 in) that was in the Wisconsin Door Peninsula area at 3:00 a.m. and forecast to track northeast to the Sault Ste. Marie area about 2:00 p.m. CT. The peak period of high gusts are likely to occur between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., but wind gusts are forecast to continue to in the area — over 50 MPH until about 4:00 p.m. and over 40 MPH until about 10:00 p.m.

Overnight and early morning ComEd outages have been low, but about 165 people are without power near Dundee Road and Elmhurst Road in Wheeling.

In Arlington Heights at about 8:15 a.m., a downed power line was reported between Mitchell Avenue and Walnut Avenue near Sigwalt Street. Firefighters on the scene reported a pole-to-pole line down in a backyard with a fire at the base of a utility pole.

Temperatures are also expected to fall through the day Sunday. At 9:00 a.m. hourly weather data is missing during hours just before and just after midnight Saturday/Sunday but the high temperature for Sunday likely occurred about midnight and was likely about 40°F.

Air temperature is forecast to drop to 23°F by 4:00 p.m. and 12°F by midnight. A morning low of 7°F is expected from about 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Thundershowers moved through the northwest suburbs about 8:00 p.m. Saturday and thunder was heard.

* TIMING…Very strong west winds will develop by daybreak and
persist into early evening.

* WINDS…Sustained west winds of 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
through this afternoon. Sustained west winds of 35 mph with
gusts of 45 to 50 mph this evening.

* IMPACTS…Difficult travel, especially for high profile
vehicles on north to south roads. Unsecured objects outdoors
blown around. Tree limb damage and sporadic power outages
possible.

* Scattered snow showers through mid-morning may produce brief
sharp reductions in visibility across northern Illinois.
