Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Freight Train on UP-W Line Near Crescent Blvd and Finley Rd, Lombard

Metra has halted Union Pacific-West trains near Lombard, and riders were being urged to take another train route, after a person was hit by a freight train Thursday morning.

Lombard police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:00 a.m. Thursday January 17, 2018 to a report that a pedestrian was hit by a freight train near Crescent Boulevard and Finley Road.

Police and firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered a pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train. Inbound and outbound Metra UP-W trains were immediately halted near the scene between the Lombard Metra station and the Glen Ellyn Metra station.

Metra reported extensive delays, advising UP-W customers to consider using the Metra BNSF line. Vehicle traffic on Crescent Boulevard and Glen Oak Road near Finley Road remained congested at 7:40 a.m.

The identity of the pedestrian was not initially released.

This is the second emergency occurring in Lombard involving a Metra train on the UP-W line. Monday night January 14, 2019, a police officer and three Good Samaritan’s rescued a 96 year-old woman from her car before the car was hit and dragged by a Metra passenger train (CARDINAL NEWS | Lombard Police Officer, 3 Good Samaritans Rescue Woman Before Train Crash with Car).
