Active Shooting Incident at UPS Warehouse on Birch Creek Rd, Swedesboro, NJ

Swedesboro police and Gloucester County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 9:00 a.m. Monday January 14, 2018 to a report of an active shooter at a UPS warehouse at 200 Birch Creek Road in Swedesboro. Police surrounded a loading dock at the UPS facility in southwest New Jersey, just across the Delaware River from Pennsylvania after receiving a report of a shooter inside the warehouse.

UPDATE: A gunman, William Owens, was shot and killed in a confrontation with police. Two female hostages were freed unharmed. Employees at the UPS warehouse said the suspect was angry with his ex-girlfriend.

A Gloucester County spokeswoman confirmed an active shooter in a UPS warehouse in Logan Township, Gloucester County. Initially no details were released about injuries. The warehouse is located in an industrial park, and officials advised that the incident is contained to the warehouse area.

An Amazon Fulfilment Center is also located nearby, just south of the UPS warehouse.

Tactical police units were deployed to the scene, and thirty-two employees that work at the UPS warehouse were relocated to the nearby Holiday Inn.

A Home Depot Distribution Center — a lumber warehouse just northwest of the scene in the industrial complex was under a lockdown, and workers are being kept inside the building.

A “modified” lockdown was activated at Logan Township’s schools in Glouchester County, according to the school district website.
