Identities Released of 3 Men Killed on Lily Pond Rd, Unincorporated Woodstock Early Sunday

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office on Monday December 17, 2018 released the identity of three young men killed in a crash early Sunday in unincorporated Woodstock.

According to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, the 1994 Jeep Cherokee that left the roadway and struck a tree of of Lily Pond Road was driven by Ryan K. Fleming, age 20, of Woodstock. Also killed were two of three passengers –Quinlan M. Hartney, age 20 of Woodstock, and Daisen T. Hollands, age 21 of Woodstock. The driver and the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office said Fleming and Hartney died from blunt trauma to the chest, and Hollands died of blunt trauma to the spine and chest.

The Jeep did not have airbags and none of the occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of crash.

The third passenger that survived the crash is a 20-year-old man from Woodstock. He was seriously injured in the crash, transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and later transferred to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating.

McHenry County Sheriff’s police, Woodstock police, and Woodstock firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:32 a.m. Sunday December 16, 2018 to a report of a single-vehicle crash right after the train tracks on Lily Pond Road near McConnell. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that four people were unconscious and trapped in a smoking vehicle.

The McHenry County sheriff’s office reported later Sunday morning that sheriff’s office deputies had responded at 3:32 a.m. to a serious crash in the block of 3100 Lily Pond Road in unincorporated Woodstock.

Police and firefighter/paramedics discovered that a Jeep Cherokee with four occupants left the roadway and crashed into a tree. Three of the people inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. One other person was seriously injured. The person was transported to an undisclosed hospital. All crash victims were identified as Woodstock residents.

An initial investigation revealed that a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, driven by the 20 year-old male driver, was northbound on Lily Pond when the driver lost control of the vehicle just north of the Metra train tracks and crashed into a tree. There are two sharp curves on Lily Pond Road north of the railroad tracks at the crash scene between Woodstock and Crystal Lake.

Investigators discovered the Jeep was driven above the 45 mph speed limit at the time of the crash when conditions were foggy and the roads were slippery. Visibility from fog was down to 300 feet in the area, and slippery frost covered the road and shoulder in the area.
