Waukegan police officers responded about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018 to a report of an armed robbery during a online transaction meeting in the block of 700 Green Bay Road, north of Grand Avenue, wh.

The robbery victim told police officers that he and the suspect had arranged to meet in parking lot after agreeing to a sale on the website letgo.com.

“Once the two parties began their transaction ‘the buyer’ or suspect pulled out a handgun and robbed the victim of the property,” Florip said in a statement.

Police have not initially released what was being sold, but the website connects buyers and sellers for such things as clothing, shoes, computers, computer games, electronics, furniture, cars, movies, books, fashion, and more.

Chief Wayne Walles of the Waukegan Police Department reminded people to use their local police department facilities as safe exchange locations.

In Waukegan, people can use the police parking lot or the front desk area at door #5, at 101 North West St., anytime during the day or night. Most police departments use facilities where video surveillance is available to deter criminal activity.

Many police departments provide meeting places and residents are encouraged to call their police department’s non-emergency phone number for details about safe exchange locations.

Letgo provides marketplace services via a website and app that allows users to buy from, sell to and chat with others locally. Let go launched in January 2015 with headquarters in New York City and Barcelona.
