The identities of two South Barrington women killed in a Friday night crash on Higgins Road just west of Beverly Road were released Sunday, August 5, 2018. Killed were Mary Kendzior, age 82, and Lisa Kendzior, age 50, of South Barrington.
The mother and her daughter from South Barrington were killed in a crash on Higgins Road (Route 72) in Hoffman Estates Friday night, according to a Hoffman Estates Police Department report released Saturday morning.
Hoffman Estates police and firefighters responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 72 and Beverly Road at about 9:37 p.m. Friday August 3, 2018. The vehicles came to rest on Higgins Road about 200 feet west of the intersection of Beverly Road and Higgins Road. A third vehicle may have also been involved in the crash, or may have been hit by debris. After the crash, the third vehicle was located in the eastbound shoulder lane of Higgins Road near the stoplight at Beverly Road.
An 82-year-old female driver and her 50-year-old passenger and daughter from South Barrington were transported to hospitals where they later were pronounced dead. Police did not initially release their identities.
The 48-year-old driver of the second vehicle was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
One of the three patients was transported away by a medical transport helicopter that had landed near the crash scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) STAR reconstruction unit.
Hoffman Estates police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:37 PM Friday August 3, 2018 to a 911 report of a rollover crash with injuries at Beverly Rd and Higgins Rd Hoffman Estates, Il. A second and third ambulance were immediately requested.
The first crew on arrival by 9:41 p.m. reported two vehicles with entrapment in both vehicles. Initially a 911 caller reported a fire, but firefighters on scene reported there was no fire.
Both vehicles had severe damage. One red vehicle was on its side in the eastbound lanes of Higgins Road. The other vehicle, silver in color, was on the median, facing eastbound. The vehicle in the median had its roof removed, apparently from firefighters using extrication tools.
A third vehicle was in the right eastbound lane near the intersection with Beverly Road. There was no information available to determine whether the third vehicle was involved in the crash.
The Speed Limit on Higgins Road is 55 MPH.
The last crash victim was extricated about 10:20 p.m. Flight for Life was already dispatched to the scene and waiting in a landing zone. Flight for Life lifted off from the landing zone about 10:40 p.m.
An extended crash investigation was ongoing, and both directions of Higgins Road were closed between Beverly Road and Dundee Avenue (Route 25). All northbound traffic on Beverly Road was forced turn right on Higgins Road or turn around and go back south on Beverly Road.
