The Tuck Shop Cafeteria at DropBox Is One Of Silicon Valley’s Best | CNBC

Silicon Valley has long enticed prospective employees with lavish perks — free food being the most common.

The cafeteria at DropBox is known as the Tuck Shop where employees enjoy gourmet meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The kitchen prepares cuisine from all over the world, such as Roasted Tofu Collard Wrap and Tacos de Barbados.

Michelin-starred refers to the annually published Michelin Red Guide, the oldest European hotel and restaurant reference guide. The guide awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence. Gaining or losing a star can affect business at a restaurant.

The little red guidebook was conceived simply to encourage more motorists to take to the road, and started in Clermont-Ferrand in central France in 1889, when brothers Andre and Edouard Michelin founded their eponymous tire company. In 1926, the guide began to award stars for fine dining establishments, initially marking them only with a single star. Five years later, a hierarchy of zero, one, two, and three stars was introduced, and in 1936, the criteria for the starred rankings were published.

Several of the chefs come from Michelin-starred restaurants. CNBC says the company never search the same meal twice, and everything is made from scratch. Most food is sourced from local farms, and the company grows it’s on micro greens, ages meats and cheeses, makes its own ice cream, and serves its own wine.

The culinary team brainstorms menus two weeks ahead of time. Baristas also craft all kinds of coffee, espresso and tea drinks. There is even a coffee roaster in the café.

Employees get all food free.
