Illinois State police, Chicago police and Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded about 11:50 p.m. Friday July 27, 2018 to a report involving a shooting victim. A man, age 25, was found shot dead in a crashed white Mercedes on the Dan Ryan Expressway in the northbound lanes between the Stevenson Expressway and 31st street.
The man inside the Mercedes Benz was found with a gunshot wound to the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Illinois State police located two other occupants of the vehicle away from the scene on the expressway. A person possibly connected to the shooting investigation was found injured at Connie’s Pizza, 2373 S. Archer Avenue. They were taken to Stroger Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and not related to the shooting, according to Illinois State Police.
The vehicle appeared to have crashed against the concrete wall of the far right lane of the 31st Street overpass. The expressway was blocked overnight, and several lanes of traffic approaching the ramp have were reopened after troopers searched the area. All traffic appears to be flowing normally at 11:00 a.m.
The incident is being investigated by the Illinois State Police. Citizens with information about the case are urged to contact the Illinois State Police District Chicago Headquarters at 847-294-4400.
