Windy, Dry High 84°F with Second Day of Red Flag Warning for Critical Fire Weather Conditions

Fire weather concerns are a repeat from Monday to Tuesday with another very warm, very dry and windy day expected today. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from May 1, 12:00 PM CDT until May 1, 07:00 PM CDT. Dew points overnight to this morning have been in the 30s compared to yesterday’s which were in the teens.

Wind gusts from the southwest are expected to start about 8:00 a.m. today and peak at 33 MPH from about 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Rain is not expected to move in until about 4:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Clear skies forecast this morning with clouds gradually increasing starting about 10:00 a.m.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7am, then a slight chance of showers between 7am and 1pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Low around 62. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. West southwest wind around 10 mph.

* Affected Area…Lake IN, Porter, Newton, Jasper, DuPage, Cook,
Benton, Will, Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford.

* 20 Foot Winds…South 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Timing…This afternoon and early evening.

* Relative Humidity…As low as 20 to 25 percent.

* Impacts…The combination of strong winds, very low relative
humidity, exceptionally dry fuels, and warm temperatures will
promote extremely dangerous behavior of any fires. Any outdoor
burning is strongly discouraged Today.
