Lower iPhone Demand Sparks New Worries For Apple — in Negative Territory for the Year

CNBC’s Josh Lipton reports on the latest concerns for Apple over weak supplier results from Taiwan Semiconductor.

Analysts expect iPhone units to be up 53 million — an increase of 4% year-to-year.

Taiwan Semiconductor or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, is the world’s largest dedicated independent (pure-play) semiconductor foundry, with its headquarters and main operations located in the Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park in Hsinchu, Taiwan. TSM is down YTD Friday afternoon.

Most of the leading fabless semiconductor companies such as Apple Inc., Qualcomm, Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), MediaTek, Marvell and Broadcom are customers of TSMC. Fabless manufacturing is the design and sale of hardware devices and semiconductor chips while outsourcing the fabrication (or “fab”) of the devices to a specialized manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry, such as TSMC
