Bartender Shot and Killed at Bar, Second Man Shot and Wounded at Izzy’s Bar on Theodore St, Joliet

Joliet police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:00 a.m. Friday to a report of a shooting at Izzy’s Bar, 507 Theodore St, Joliet. The shooting incident at the bar northwest of downtown Joliet near the city limits, and surrounded by a residential neighborhood, killed a male bartender and injured a second man.

A 55-year-old man, who works on vintage cars, is accused of the shooting at Izzy’s Bar, and is in custody. Patrons at the bar jumped tried to disarm the suspect when a second man was shot.

Witnesses reported that the suspect, who had been kicked out of the bar earlier that night, allegedly came returned inside the bar, carrying a shotgun, and fired a single round at 52-year-old bartender Danny Rios.

Rios was transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics, and pronounced dead about 8:00 a.m. Friday — about seven hours after the shooting.

Joliet police received a search warrant and entered the suspect’s home and garage in the block of 1600 Dearborn Street in Crest Hill, which is only half a block from the bar. The city of Crest Hill, to the north, is just across Theodore Street.

Charges are pending.
