McHenry police investigated a police-involved crash Monday after a male driver made a left turn in front of an unmarked police vehicle at the intersection of Route 120 (Elm Street) and Crystal Lake Road.
Police say Shane O. Williams was driving a Honda Civic westbound on Route 120 when he attempted to turn left onto Crystal Lake Road. A McHenry detective, whose identity was not released, was driving a silver 2012 Dodge Charger eastbound on Route 120, approaching Crystal Lake Road.
Witnesses reported that the traffic light had turned yellow as the two vehicles entered the intersection, and Williams’ Civic turned in front of the unmarked police vehicle when the two vehicles crashed.
Shane O. Williams, 46, of Wonder Lake was cited with failure to yield to avoid an accident, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, according to McHenry Deputy Police Chief Tom Walsh.
Both Williams and the driver of the police car were transported to Centegra Hospital – McHenry with injuries that were initially not considered to life-threatening.
