Zion police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:30 AM Wednesday August 16, 2017 to a report of two shooting victims at the back of the police station, but the actual shooting may have been near 24th Street and Joppa Avenue Zion, IL.
Police initially were dispatched to respond to the back of the Zion Police Department headquarters at 2101 Salem Boulevard. Police learned that two victims drove themselves to the police station from the shooting scene, reported to be at 24th Street and Joppa Avenue in Zion — less than a mile or about eight blocks east of the police station.
The shooting scene is located in a residential neighborhood, two blocks west of West Elementary School in Zion.
A Flight For Life medical helicopter was requested to transport one of the victims to a Level I Trauma Center.
Police set up a search perimeter near 24th Street and Joppa Avenue, and were canvassing the neighborhood.
