London firefighters responded about 12:54 a.m. UK time to an extensive high-rise fire, the Grenfell Tower in west London.

At least 25 floors of the 27-story building appeared to be engulfed in flames. Over forty fire engines and 200 firefighters were initially dispatched to the scene once the severity of the fire was discovered early Wednesday morning. London local time is five hours ahead of Chicagoland local time. London Fire Brigade reports that the fire involves the 2nd floor through to the top floor of the 27-story building.

The Metropolitan Police said two people were being treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and a wide perimeter was set around the building. Ash was reported more than 100 yards away from the building.

Witnesses reported seeing people signaling for help from rescuers with flashlights on upper floors.
